2015 Summer Blogger Promo Tour - The Perks of Being a Bookworm

I'm excited to introduce Naomi today for this year's Summer Blogger Promo Tour hosted by The Book Bratz! Naomi is the owner of The Perks of Being a Bookworm, which is just such a cute blog!

After checking out her blog, I just had to how she became the book lover that she is today! Thank you in advance for participating, Naomi!

How I Became a Book Lover

Thank you for having me today, Lauren! Today as the title says, I am going to talk about how I adopted my obsession with books.

When I was in reception at around 4/5 years old, at the start of the year they were telling us to read books. The thing was that they were giving me large print and completely huge books about a dog jumping in a garden. I would take it with me one day and finish it the next without my parents help. They were surprised at how fast I could read and get into books that I was told to read go away and read the all the books. When I said that I had read all the books in the box, by the time I was 5, (September-May) I was moved up to start the colour coded system and work my way up to the year above me. A boy in my class and I used to challenge each other and see who could reach the next level higher and we would brag to each other each time we got moved up which was really fun.

The thing was that in my primary school you weren’t allowed to read books over your level, it was
rainbow themed say I was red I wouldn’t be able to read pink. I used to sneak around and take books from the higher levels because I had to wait for my teacher to ask to read with me to move up levels which would be around once a month and I read a lot!

After I earned my chance to be able to select any book from the library, things went from there. I would go home and sit down in my bed and read from the time I came back from home to dinner. I would even take my books to the table and then I would be straight back at it again. I would force my dad to take me to the local big library every single week where I would take out 8 books a month and I would finish them all in around 2 weeks and go back for more. The librarian always gave me the ‘are you sure you can read all of that’ look and I would nod and hand them my library card and walk home with a heavy bag of books. I was probably one of the only children who was excited to go the library and sit at the tables and read. I would even join in with those summer reading programs where you would have to read a certain number of books and you would get a medal if you read 10. You would get stickers and you would colour in the stars and write a mini review. My love for books really expanded from there and I really fell in love with books. Books are a massive part of my life and if I didn’t have books I wouldn’t have much to do and I would be a very bored person.

Yes, I have been a book lover since I was 4 years old and I haven’t ever really stopped. There are
sometimes when I don’t feel like reading. My name is Naomi and I am a booklover and proud. It feels
good to say that and others should too.

  1. A reader from a young age, way to go! It's not a rule, but when you start loving books from so young, they will ALWAYS be considered as the things that have made you who you are. ;)
