To Blog or Not to Blog

So I've been doing a little thinking.. yes, I do that on occasion. I was trying to decide whether to keep blogging or not. I never really got my feet wet in the first place and I only have 3 measly reviews up on here. Seriously, can my blog even be considered a book blog? I think not. But after a few conversations with some awesome book bloggers on twitter, including the lovely Ishita aka Fishy over at The Reading Fish, I decided to keep on keepin' on. I started this blog for me. I've read lot of blogs that say in order to gain followers or keep having people check out your posts, you need to write reviews that appeal to them. Once again, this blog is for me. Yes, I love my followers and think they are awesome, but I'm not one to check my stats and hope they move on up. I just don't have the time to worry about things like that. So obviously I'm behind on reviews. I've read 50 books so far this year and have only reviewed 3. Honestly, I'm new to reviewing. I've been reading like a maniac since I was little, but reviewing the books I've read? No. So I need to just put my big girl panties on and just start typing. I've met so many awesome bloggers and there's just no way in the world I'm going to leave them! So my schedule to start off with for my blog is simple. One to two reviews up a week. I'm not big on meme's. I don't know why. So reviews and occasional posts about my thoughts, feelings, whatever comes to mind... all of which will be bookish in nature. So here's to me starting anew and maybe, just maybe, after getting my feet wet, I'll be able to wade a little deeper in river.

Thanks again, Ishita. You are awesome. If you guys don't know her, what the heck are you waiting for? Shoo.. go check her out now! You can find her on twitter here and check out her blog below!

  3. Here's the thing. There are tons of people who are going to tell you what you should do, how to be successful and what success means but all of that is irrelevant to you. Why? Because one can only measure their own success by making their own goals. If your goal is to read more, than fuck blogging two times a week. READ! I have NEVER once adhered to a schedule. Never. And I never will. I have read 70 or so books this year and I have only blogged about them when I felt like it, and only the ones I felt like. I don't care if it was an ARC or was given to me by another blogger I say thank you and move on. If I liked it or really disliked it I will blog if I feel like it but there is no room in my life for meh book reviews or reviewing when I don't feel like it. Not every blog is set up to be a promotion machine either, I just happen to LIKE to promote books or makeup or the coffee shop that has the earl grey smoothie. The bottom line is it *is* your blog and it *should* be fun and you need to do whatever it is that makes it fun for you. You have a great design and I think you are doing well :D

  4. I love this :)

I think that's the most important thing about blogging; do it for yourself, and the rest will follow. Then even if you don't have thousands of followers or reviews, at least you're pleased with what you've accomplished.

For what it's worth, I only started reviewing books I read this year. I find it makes me pay more attention to the books I read, in a good way. A little bit of practice and I think I'm getting more out of my book snow then I did before :)

    Just ave fun with it!

  6. I'm glad you haven't decided to give up. I don't think it matters how many reviews you have and whatnot. This is your blog to do what you want with. :) Just do whatever makes you happy. That's what I do!

  8. Yay I'm glad you're staying.
Sometimes I feel guilty if I don't post as often as I think I should. But then I think about. I am still in school full time and I work 5 days a week. Plus sometimes I would like to do other things in my spare time besides read (like be with my friends/family). SO when I think about all those things I realize that though I love book blogging and the blogging community, it is not my job or my whole life. It is something I do because I love it and enjoy doing it. It should never feel like a chore.
Read for you. And if you've got time share your thoughts with us. That's all anyone can ask of you.

  9. Yes! Book reviews, once or twice a week? You can totally do that! I'd love to know what you enjoy reading. And I think the changes coming to Blogger when it morphs into Google Blogs are going to make it a lot easier to connect with people. Your blog is gorgeous, by the way. :)

  11. I'm so glad you decided to continue blogging, and I'm even more glad you decided to do it for yourself.

There are so many "rules" and "guidelines" to follow for blogs, but the truth is that every blog out there has their own set of goals and aspirations, and what works for one person won't work for another. Your goal seems to be to blog when you can, and to have fun doing it. I love that! The important thing is that you are reading the books; everything else is just extra fun on the side. :)
